Christmas Stockings
Provide children with an outline of a stocking shape to trace and to cut out on red construction paper. Next, have children paste white cotton balls on top of the stocking, creating a white band. Children may add decorations to their stocking using colouring materials. Encourage children to print their name on their stocking in an interesting way. Create a variation of this activity by having children cut two stocking shapes and lace them together with colourful wool.
Kwanzaa Prints
Kwanzaa, Swahili for "first fruit", is a traditional African festival that lasts seven days starting on the twenty-sixth of December. Using green, red, yellow, blue and black paint pads, demonstrate for the children how to use fruit cut into stamps to create various fruit print patterns.
Ramadan Silhouettes
On wet manila paper, have children create a dawn or dusk effect by applying streaks of yellow, orange and pink paint on the whole paper. Let the paper dry. Meanwhile have children cut out silhouettes of mosques and other buildings found in the community. Paste these silhouettes on the dry dusk or dawn paintings.
Holiday Hand Wreath
Create a special holiday hand wreath. Have children trace their hand on squares of green construction paper. Cut out the hand shapes and paste around the paper plate. Encourage the children to overlap the hand shapes for a fuller look. Add decorations to the wreath like glitter and tissue paper lights. Create the tissue paper lights by wrapping small square pieces of tissue paper around the head of a pencil. Place glue on the head of the pencil and paste the light onto the wreath.
Ice Cream Cone Christmas Trees
Have children place an ice cream cone upside down on a paper plate. This will be the Christmas tree. Cover the cone with green frosting or green coloured whipped cream. Decorate the ice cream cone Christmas tree with assorted candies.
