Personal Thanksgiving Quilt

Time Frame: 40 minutes

MOTIVATION:
Thanksgiving is a special time of year. A personal thanksgiving quilt is a fantastic springboard to discuss reasons why the children should be thankful.

MATERIALS:

  • Colouring materials
  • Paper Squares
  • Yarn
  • Hole punch
  • Pencil
  • Ruler

WHAT TO DO:

  1. Brainstorm a list with the children of reasons for which they could be thankful;
  2. Demonstrate for the children how to create a border, a ruler's width around four paper square;
  3. Model for the children how to create a cross-stitch pattern with crayon inside the border;
  4. In the centre of two squares, instruct children to draw a picture of something for which they are thankful;
  5. In the other two squares instruct children to print words or phrases of why they are thankful;
  6. Next, model for the children how to punch holes through all four squares around the edges;
  7. Using yarn, instruct children to lace together their paper squares to form a quilt.
