MOTIVATION:
Thanksgiving is a special time of year. A personal thanksgiving quilt is a fantastic springboard to discuss reasons why the children should be thankful.
MATERIALS:
Colouring materials
Paper Squares
Yarn
Hole punch
Pencil
Ruler
WHAT TO DO:
Brainstorm a list with the children of reasons for which they could be thankful;
Demonstrate for the children how to create a border, a ruler's width around four paper square;
Model for the children how to create a cross-stitch pattern with crayon inside the border;
In the centre of two squares, instruct children to draw a picture of something for which they are thankful;
In the other two squares instruct children to print words or phrases of why they are thankful;
Next, model for the children how to punch holes through all four squares around the edges;
Using yarn, instruct children to lace together their paper squares to form a quilt.
